My family was packing to leave town in a few hours — but the news caught my eye. Kabul had fallen. A dear friend and her husband live there, and in a split-second the realization of what a Taliban coup would mean for her dawned—she is a Taliban target trifecta—woman, Christian, interpreter.
“M” returned my frantic messages right away, and for the next 72 hours her messages chronicled the advance of the Taliban on the airport. She and her husband had been ahead of the curve and had already secured tickets out of Kabul. I was relieved that they were already inside the airport awaiting a flight.
But her next message dropped me to my knees: “They are fleeing. All the airport staff. They are leaving! There is no one to fly planes or take tickets! We are hiding on the second floor. What should we do? What does the news say is happening?” From that point every message was more chilling:
“Elizabeth we tried to go to the NATO side of airport like you said, but they have snipers!”
“Chaos everywhere. Mobs looting every store. It is so dangerous here.”
“We tried to leave but Taliban killed a boy downstairs.”
“There is shooting.”
“We are trapped here what do we do?”
As “M’s” messages rolled in I toggled between messaging her, getting people to pray, and figuring out who I knew who might be able to help — or knew someone. I sent frantic emails and made calls to the offices of both Senator Josh Hawley and Senator Tom Cotton. I called friends who called friends on the Hill. I called my military brother. I messaged the Director of the large organization they worked with.
This was going to be much more challenging than an American citizen evac—my friends are foreign nationals that are neither American not Afghan. But because of their work, they were in grave, grave danger. I was going for broke, compelled by love. Imagining someone I love trapped by the (literal) Taliban was breaking my heart and my mind.
Hundreds of people began to pray all over the world. Both Senators Cotton and Hawley’s staffers responded to me, and began to get to work up-channeling the names I gave them. I expected to encounter resistance, but instead I found that they were ready and willing.
In what other nation can a total nobody (me), be heard by two of the most powerful people on the planet (United States Senators) because a friend is trapped by an evil regime? And then these powerful people actually move on behalf of strangers to respond and rescue? Only in our America, land of the free and home of the BRAVE.
As word came in from Afghanistan that “M” and “V” decided it was safer to brave a Taliban checkpoint than stay in the airport, my heart trembled. A few torturous hours later came the relief: “We made it through the Taliban checkpoint. Now sheltering in place with American missionary girls we know.”
Around midnight on day two, a new text came into my phone—it was a personal text from a private number. One of Senator Cotton’s team was ready to contact ground forces in Kabul and get “M” and “V” on the evacuation approval list. Throughout the night, this staffer stayed awake with me as we shuttled detailed messages back and forth…passport numbers, countries, legal names, phone numbers, etc. They went the extra mile to get the details of the Americans they were sheltering with so that a secure transport could connect the group together, pick them up safely, transport them to the airport, and get them evacuated. It was an astonishing night as these champions worked tirelessly to rescue unknown people. The Senator’s team “called and called and called” all night to link all the names together and ensure approval to board an evac flight. My tears flowed and flowed and flowed with gratitude.
The fog of war is real, and I knew to expect that it would be impossible at some level for every single soldier along the way to have the same updated list of names. Those of us in direct contact with “M” & “V” coached them through the night…”Be bold. Act American – don’t take no for an answer. Be confident your names ARE on the list! Do not get out of that line! Be persistent!”
The first hurdle was safe transport through the city to the airport. About 3am we got word that the transport had been executed and they were safe on the NATO/US Military side of the airport. Rejoicing!!! Next hurdle: the line to get on a plane. The dreaded text came saying “the soldier says we need a green card to be in this line. It isn’t going to work Elizabeth! Pray!”
And pray we did. Thousands of us.
We continued sending encouraging messages to keep them believing and hopeful—at this point they had been awake 48+ hours, and were fraying with stress and exhaustion…
“Stay in the line. Your name is on the list. Tell them confidently. Americans won’t leave you behind. They won’t. Look them in the eye, tell them your name is on the list, check again. Show them Senator Cotton and Hawley’s names. Tell them you are meant to be evacuated. Americans WILL NOT LEAVE YOU. Don’t give up!” A few hours later the most beautiful voice text came…
“Elizabeth, the miracle has happened!!! The soldiers said yes! We are boarding an evacuation flight for Qatar!!!”
Twelve hours later “M” and “V” messaged that they were SAFE in Qatar surrounded by kind soldiers taking care of them, with clean beds, hot showers, and nutritious food provided. Their hearts are undone with gratitude as they navigate home through many countries and military bases. They are alive.
Theirs is a literal miracle rescue, made possible by a chain of champions—people who run INTO the fire to rescue the innocent, not from it; by champions of the brave and true American sort; and by champions in prayer who pounded heaven for days on behalf of a brother and sister they have never known.

Praise our Lord and heavenly Father! Such an encouraging story of answered prayers. I know there are many more of these God interventions that I may never hear about – but they have been and will continue to take place. The Lord is faithful! I have been praying for days for all people in this terrible situation in Afghanistan. The children and women in particular are on my heart.
You pray and pray without specific details of the need being known. This report will keep me going even stronger to petition heaven’s grace until every one is rescued and safe from evil. God knows the needs even when we do not.

I had a similar experience. I heard that flights couldn’t leave the airport because the State Department had not signed a letter of diplomatic amnesty. I called all my respresentatives and senators. I was shocked that real people answered my calls and were concerned. One person even connected me with other numbers I could call. Praise God for this miracle.

We pray for safety for all the Americans, Missionaries and the people who are in danger of staying in Afghanistan May they feel Your presence around them Holding them comforting them and giving them the hope they need in times such as these. May they be hidden from the enemy and arrive safely home. Comfort their families. May people press into You Lord and call on Your Holy name for deliverance. We pray for the bold military that is there to help and for others who have their best at heart and are doing something in getting them out. Heavenly Father, we pray Your holy word over the many who are in peril in Afghanistan. When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord raises up a standard against them. May Your heavenly host guard, guide, and minister to those who are desperate for You. Their lives are in Your hands. We intercede on their behalf that Your glory would be manifest in the valley of the shadow of death. Like this account, we pray for divine intervention and for testimonies that bring glory to You holy name. For we pray in the name of Your Son, Jesus, who is mighty to save.
Fervent prayers will accomplish much. We must be committed to pray those fervent prayers. The enemy is real, powerful and actively seeking to destroy all God’s people and their testimony. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. Thank God for those who have compassion and a will to faithfully stand firm against the enemy. May we all continue to pray fervently for all those who need evacuation. God bless our senators who truly care.
Lord Jesus, thank you for this miracle. I pray you would plant it as a seed for a hundredfold blessing. Duplicate the miraculous a hundredfold to protect Your church in Afghanistan, American citizens trapped there, and all the innocent women and children in the overwhelming tide of the merciless Taliban. After Pastor jack Hibbs, my pastor, prayed of the Lord being El Roi- in htis situation, the God who see sees us.. I began to pray that ,and now am much more hopeful of His divine intervention in Afghanistan, the only real solution

What an incredible testimony. Guys, I am requesting agreement in prayer for my son Ryan, right here in Utah. He began getting harassed and oppressed by the FBI’s Infragard, in 2012. This is not a good group. They are TARGETING INDIVIDUALS ESPECIALLY VETS. They perpetrate Psychotronic warfare,(ie. voice to skull, irradiation, vibrating body parts, etc.), they do serious gangstalking, contacting everyone the TARGETED INDIVIDUAL knows, and badmouthing them, street theatre, and frivolous arrests. The FBI’s Infragard, and other fusion centers are essentially killing people through slow torture. The reason we have so many vets committing suicide is owing to these sinister groups. My son is not a veteran, and when he first began recounting this to me, I thought he was on drugs or lost his mind. As I began investigating, I realized people across the country had similar stories. The FBI’s Infragard works with the local Sheriff’s and Police Departments. I want to love my men in blue, but this is real!!! It is a highly paid position. My son is currently very wrongfully incarcerated, to retaliate on my blowing their cover in Utah. I am not Mormon, and Ryan’s CASES are now a mess. I do not believe he can get due process because of the extreme corruption within the Mormon Church. Please pray that God does a miracle and gets these wrongful charges dropped. A Mormon jury, (they are all like sheep, or goats as my friend Rose says) would convict him. Thank you for your time and attention to this critical matter.

I sure Thank God, who is the All-Miracle Worker. I also thank Senators Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz who are Not afraid to speak out against the things going on in Afghanistan. And God surely does hear an answers prayer, Thank You Lord Almighty that You Do hear and answer our prayers no matter what is happening. Give us patience when we sometimes may have to wait a little bit for You to answer. Jesus name I pray, amen.
Praise God for the teamwork through prayer and hard work by many to get these folks out safe. In Haggai 2 God says “…be strong..be strong..be strong..be strong. I am with you, do not fear (be afraid)..I will give you peace.” Zechariah adds God saying…”Not by might, nor by power but by My Spirit says the Lord.” God helped at the time of the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem when the enemy came in like a flood and He will help the Christians in Afghanistan as we pray. If God can part the waters of the Red Sea and also the Jordan River, He can do this!! No task is too small or large for Him! He makes roads in the wilderness, rivers in the desert! My heart rejoices to hear of their rescue. Let us in the US see this and remember…keep believing, keep praying. As we pray fervently, the heavens open and our God responds !!

Father, have mercy on your people stranded in this awful situation. Give them your peace in the midst of the chaos. Direct them and give them supernatural protection. And we continue to ask that you heal our nation. Deliver us from medical and governmental tyranny. Restore justice and righteousness that we may truly be a nation of light. Forgive us believers for letting the wicked run our nation and not being the salt and leaders you desire us to be.

In the midst of all the evil and danger in Afghanistan, a miracle took place! Thank You, Jesus! Thank You that Holy Spirit worked through all of these people! No matter how evil or depraved things may appear in the natural, God supernaturally is still on His throne, and still works His signs and wonders. What satan meant for evil, God turned around and used for good. I am looking forward to more good reports of what God has miraculously done on behalf of His children.

Open the airways for communication to the helpless, terrorized by the enemy, Satan: break his hold over Afghanistan, over Taliban leaders, prevent their physical strength from running, from holding their heads up, or lifting weapons, disturb their minds with the horrible murderous thoughts Satan has planted in them. Blind them to those who must escape, to those who stay to defend the innocent, the Christians, those who have helped America hold back the onslaught of terrorism in the land and around the world. I pray for Your leadership, Your chosen and truly elected officials to have the legal, Constitutional right to step in when and where You lead. Nothing is impossible for You, Our God and Savior…..asking for great power and mercy for those waiting on You, praying with faith, believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. Give those responsible for evacuating by air the skill and wisdom, courage and boldness to stand up to the wicked, having no fear of their faces….whether it be false leaders in America or those in Afghanistan….China, or anywhere in the world. Break the power and plan of China and any nation who would see weakness in our current posing President and assume You have left us. Show forth Your might power and mercy to save America. In God we must trust, forever. Amen

Lord God,allow M and V to find rest under the protective pinions of Your wings. This will be a time for them to get refreshed, restored, and renewed so they can regain their strength and focus. Pray this in Your Mighty Name, Lord Jesus, Amen.

God, thank you for this victory story. I pray You would repeat this story over and over for those who remain in Afghanistan. Every American who is stranded there, every Afghan believer who needs a safe hiding place or an evacuation escape…. God, lead each one to safety, if it means staying in the nation or getting out. Make a way for each one and give them all they need: healthy food, clean drinking water, a shower, a clean comfortable bed, comfort, clean clothes, etc etc etc. Show Yourself to be the safe refuge they need and guide them to safety. Escapes from death belong to You and we pray You would walk each person who is crying out to you to the place where they will live and not die, and be able to declare Your glory and share the testimony of what You did for them.

This is a totally encouraging report and answer to prayer as we in the US look sometimes hopelessly at what is happening and knowing only God can do this rescue! We were also blessed to hear our missionary from Pakistan share on SUnday that one of his church plants on the Afghan-Pakistan border is actually protected by the Taliban who dislike rival groups-only God!! He is bigger and uses who He wants all for the glory of His Name. We are praying that supernatural events like the enemy having visions of Jesus will occur to help keep safe those who are His and other innocents. I also pray those who are rescued and don’t know Him and come to the US will be treated in such as way as they seek Jesus. Afterall the underground church in Afghanistan is the second largest in the world according to some experts.
Thankful and hopeful! Trusting in our God’s faithfulness and His merciful justice. Continuing in prayer for all caught in this conflict.
Father thank you for answered prayers and the efforts of elected officials and their staff. We pray for wisdom for our leaders; courage, comfort and resolve for those stranded; and safety for all involved.

I loved reading this! How encouraging it was to read how God Almighty worked each and every detail out to bring them home safely! It reinforces confidence in God’s faithfulness and the power of prayer as God’s people work together to break the bonds of the enemy!

Wow what an awesome answer to my prayers. My spirit was grieving and continues to grieve. I have heard reports that only God will be able to save those people who need to get out. I have been praying that God would raise a standard there, place His warring angels to protect and that He would send forth His power to make a way where there is none, as He did with Moses and the Israelites. God is so good and this is confirmation for my prayers.
